Thirteen-year-old Skylar is a very inspiring, wonderful, amazing, strong little girl who has three life threatening diseases that affect her every day!
In 2009, she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease known as HLH, Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis followed by a diagnosis of Job syndrome & Lupus which requires her to wear a hat at all times to protect her skin from ultraviolet rays.
In April 2013, Make-A-Wish Foundation helped her to launch her stylish hat line inspired by her medical conditions to protect her sensitive skin called HiSky. This was her wish to help others protect their skin from the harmful rays of the sun and to teach people about sun safety.
Skylar was selected as the 2013 Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneur of the Year! You can read about her at www.hawaiibusiness.com in the September 2013 issue…….”Child struggling with serious illness wished to create a business” by Ashley Shaffer.
She has had ongoing chemotherapy treatment at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. Her team of doctors are working hard to get her healthy! She just started her freshman year at Le Jardin and has an exciting year ahead of her! Mom Irma along with her brother and sister have been a great support for her!
